MEDLI’S HISTORY
Medical and Scientific Libraries of Long Island (MEDLI) was founded by Brynhild U. Olah (b. February 8, 1907 in Ohio) in 1960. The stated purpose of this new organization was to provide reciprocal lending privileges to neighboring medical and scientific libraries. toward this end, Meadowbrook Hospital (now Nassau County Medical Center) compiled a list of all journal holding in nearby hospitals.
Bea was the director of the medical library at Nassau County Medical Center from October 21, 1957 to April 12, 1970 and was the first president of MEDLI from 1962 to 1964. The first meeting was held on April 13, 1962, with twenty attendees. At the April 6, 1965 meeting, the members voted to call the organization “MEDLI.”
