Wearable Technology: Everything You Wanted to Know but Were Afraid to Ask
Farmingdale Public Library
Friday, June 12, 2015

“Wearable technology” and “wearable devices” are phrases that describe electronics and computers that are integrated into clothing and other accessories that can be worn comfortably on the body.  Over the years, wearable devices have evolved from large, bulky, and uncomfortable technologies to more portable, fashionable and lightweight items. Developers have incorporated technology into wearable items such as glasses, watches, headbands, and jewelry.  While these technologies show great influence in fashion and entertainment, they potentially have a more significant impact in the areas of health, medicine, and fitness.

We will be discussing ways librarians are utilizing wearable technology to enhance services and expand outreach to their organizations, as well as the obstacles that these technologies present (e.g. cost, security & privacy concerns).
