WHAT IS CRITICAL LIBRARIANSHIP AND HOW TO PRACTICE IT IN MY LIBRARY

Critical Librarianship is about applying principles of social justice to our work in libraries. Critical Librarianship is rooted in critical theory, which attempts to identify, examine, and disrupt inequitable systems. It begins when we recognize that libraries and library work are not neutral spaces. Libraries and librarians support critical thinking, information literacy, lifelong learning, inclusive and ethical publishing.
Presenter: Samantha Walsh, MLS, MA, Manager of Information & Education Services at the Levy Library, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, will begin her presentation with an introduction to critical librarianship and how to practice it in all libraries. She will then focus on academic and health sciences libraries.
